Fort Bragg continues to move ahead with planned municipal broadband service despite increased construction costs. The current budget shortfall on the project is almost $8 million. Loan bids from several banks were received, with EverBank offering 20-year terms and competitive rates, as well as a plan to eventually remove the city’s general fund as collateral on the loan. Mayor Jason Godeke says the city recognizes the risks of the project, but also emphasizing the long term potential of the broadband project. The City Council has voted unanimously to accept EverBank’s loan offer and start on construction.
