A Covelo man was killed in a one-car crash over the weekend northeast of Willits. Dennis Shepherd, 78, was driving westbound on Highway 162 when his vehicle left the road, drove down an embankment, and hit two trees. When officers arrived on the scene just before two o’clock on Saturday, Shepherd was unresponsive. First responders applied live-saving measures, but Shepherd died at the scene. Investigation into the accident is ongoing.
