CalFire has announced that in conjunction with landowners and the Eel River Recovery Project, a controlled burn is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in the area of lower Ten Mile Creek, near Highway 101, roughly seven miles north of Laytonville. Torchbearr, the Yreka-based company that teaches how to implement and manage prescribed burns, will lead the effort to burn roughly 15 acres to mitigate wildfire risk and support forest health. Residents in the area may see smoke during the burns, which will take place, weather permitting.
