The Willits City Council, at its last meeting, amended the municipal code to require property owners who spend more than $100K or more on other property repairs or construction also to fix or replace the sidewalks on their property. The change in code addresses sidewalk rules that hadn’t been updated in over three decades. The update is designed to keep sidewalks and curb ramps safe and avoid liability issues for both the property owner and the city, which can be held responsible for legal claims according to state law.
