Public Meeting Showcases Hopeful New Cooperation Between Fort Bragg and Skunk Train Owners

At the beginning of the week, a town hall meeting that included Fort Bragg City leaders and Skunk Train executives drew a capacity crowd. The meeting was part of an agreement to cooperate and enter open discussion regarding the 400-acre mill site that makes up all of Fort Bragg’s ocean access from the Noyo River Bridge to Glass Beach. Mendocino Public Broadcasting reports there were two sessions in which the more than 130 people present could peruse maps and plans for a conference center, a dining hall, residences, a Pomo cultural centre, and an electric trolley system designed to carry visitors around the proposed complex. The vision presented could take up to twenty years to bring to fruition. Although the meeting was a hopeful first step in resolving differences between the city and property owners, no real solutions were presented at that meeting. Another town hall meeting regarding the mill site is scheduled for Monday.
