The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating human remains found in a remote part of the county last week. A call on Wednesday alerted the office to the discovery of a skeleton in the Mendocino National Forest north of Lucerne. The Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit, the Coroner, and the U.S. Forest Service responded to the scene. Investigation into the case is ongoing. The remains have been sent to the California Department of Justice for identification and determination of cause of death.
