The Lake County Board of Supervisors voted on Tuesday to approve the formation of the Lake County Hospital Improvement District, which is thought to be the first of its kind in the state. The LakeCountyNews reports the district will be a “business-based assessment of general acute care hospitals in Lake County”. The assessment will be used to decrease the non-federal share of Medi-Cal reimbursement, which will then increase the federal share on a two to one basis. The board and hospital officials stressed that the assessment would not be added to the cost of care for patients.
