Update on Boyles Fire in Clearlake

Containment on the Boyles Fire in Clearlake continues to increase. Fire officials report that the blaze is 50% contained as of Tuesday. Evacuation orders in the immediate area of the fire continue to be in effect, while some were lifted, including the area around Walmart. Fire officials say they hope to release and reopen the entire area by sometime tomorrow, once spot fires have been dealt with. The fire has burned 81 acres and destroyed 30 homes and 40 vehicles. 2100 of the initial 4000 residents remain evacuated. Obsidian Middletown School, Blue Heron, and Lewis schools all have heavy smoke damage and will be closed through Thursday for full emergency recovery cleaning. An update is expected on Thursday. The Lake County Campus of Woodland Community College will be closed for the rest of the week. All activity at the college has been taken online. The cause of the fire is under investigation, the wind is said to be responsible for its rapid spread.
