The way the Lake County Sheriff’s Office posts inmate and arrest information on its website will soon change. A federal court ruling has stated that posting the photographs of arrestees is not constitutionally allowable as it constitutes punishment. The ruling in the Houston vs Maricopa County, Arizona suit says the state may not punish pretrial detainees without adjudication of guilt. A new tool called Citizen RIMS will display recent arrests and in-custody information that will be in compliance with the court ruling. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s office has followed suit, taking down mugshots on its website.
