CalFire has announced it will perform a prescribed burn near Willits today starting around 8 am. The training burn will be conducted at the Mendocino Unit Headquarters near Willits, known as Howard Forest, located on the Ridgewood Summit on Highway 101. The training burn is expected to use about 20 acres of grassy area and will allow firefighters to train in wildfire suppression. Smoke and aircraft may be visible in the area.
