A single-car crash near Middletown this past Thursday claimed the life of one person and injured two. The Clearlake CHP office said the crash happened late afternoon on Highway 29 north of Western Mine Road. The driver of a Toyota Camry traveling northbound at a high rate of speed left the road and struck a tree east of the roadway. The driver and a male passenger were airlifted to a hospital in Santa Rose. The second passenger sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. All were wearing their seat belts, however, alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
