The man arrested after Lake County’s first charged fentanyl homicide pleaded not guilty in court on Monday. Joe Nathan Boggs made his first appearance before Judge Andrew Blum in the death of 17-year-old Illeanna Makena Frease on Monday. Boggs’ court-appointed attorney requested a bail review during his preliminary hearing on the 26th. Illeanna Makena Frease was a member of the Elem tribe. Family members were present at the hearing and wore red T-shirts with her picture on them to bring attention to the epidemic of murder among indigenous peoples. Frease’s mother, Michaela John, called Boggs ” a drug trafficking, predatory murderer.”
