A fire in Nice on Wednesday afternoon quickly escalated and prompted evacuations. Fire crews were already working blazes in Kelseyville and Scotts Valley, which required engines and other units to respond from the south county. At 3:20 pm the Sheriff’s Office issued an evacuation order for zone NIC-E047 due to the fire. Shortly before 5, the sheriff’s office updated evacuation areas, with the area east of Hammond Avenue still under evacuation orders. A temporary evacuation point at the Upper Lake High School gym was established.
