A project that started as a way of supporting a few friends deployed overseas has now celebrated its 21st anniversary in the community. Operation Tango Mike stands for “Thanks Much” and began with a few packages sent to friends in Afghanistan. Now, almost 100 care packages a month are sent to troops in Iraq, Yemen, aboard ships, and in many other countries. Since its humble beginnings, Operation Tango Mike has sent out over 26,000 packages to those overseas. Regular, family-friendly packing parties are held on the third Thursday of the month at 6 pm at the Umpqua Bank on 11th Street in Lakeport. Anyone interested in participating is invited to attend.
