Lakeport Unified School District May Have to Cut Staff

Changes in attendance, funding and a rise in staffing costs prompted the Lakeport Unified School District to hold a special budget meeting on Thursday. The district is looking at a four million dollar decrease in funding from last year. Consequently, the board looked at positions that may be targeted for layoffs. The list includes Bus monitor, Director of Sup. Support Services, instructional coaches, paraprofessionals, permanent substitutes, permanent substitute counselor, and school psychologist. According to district officials, this decision is not yet finalized and will be considered over the next three months while the budget is finalized.
