The United States Coast Guard on Friday reported a discharge of roughly 500 gallons of diesel fuel about 30 miles offshore of Fort Bragg. The Coast Guard Cutter “Alder” was on its way to Humboldt Bay when a discharge pump was left on for about an hour and a half. The report on the spill determined that with the trajectory of the wind and current, there was no possibility of the spill impacking the shoreline, however it was noted there could be potential impacts on seabirds in area.
