Outside Auditor Gives Mendo Board of Supers Results of Audit

An outside auditor has completed the audit for the fiscal year 2021-22 for Mendocino County and presented his findings to the Board of Supervisors. MendoFever reports the auditor recommended intensive additional training and the establishment of protocols to ensure that the county’s practices moving forward are proper. Several over and understatements, accounts that were not properly tracked, and a lack of internal controls that could expose public funds to the possibility of fraud were found. Jeff Peake, of Clifton Larson Allen, could not provide the amount of the misstatements or where the county is financially, as last year’s audit is still outstanding.
