At their last meeting, the Ukiah City Council voted to require the owner of the Palace Hotel to either stabilize the building to ensure public safety or obtain a permit to demolish it. TheUkiahDailyJournal reports the city manager expressed hope of preservation, but also stated that public safety is the most important issue, and the Palace is a hazard. The attorney for the property owner said the 30-day timeline was unreasonable and asked the council to allow negotiations for the sale of the building to continue. The council held fast and voted unanimously on the 30-day timeline.
