In a press release issued by the SEIU Local 1021 late Friday, Mendocino County workers voted to authorize a strike should one become necessary. The authorization passed with over 92% of the membership voting yes. SEIU 1021 Mendocino County Chapter President Julie Beardsley, a senior public health analyst for the county said members are frustrated with the lack of leadership from the administration. The authorization of a strike vote is a strong indicator that things need to change. Currently, the county has a 29% vacancy rate, which puts the health and well-being of its residents at risk.
