Local Fire Departments and Districts to See Benefit from Budget Earmark

Nearly $5.9 million dollars in state funding for support of fire departments, fire districts, and wildfire prevention organizations in north Mendocino and south Humboldt counties is coming from the state. Senator Mike McGwire announced mid-week that $2 million of that comes from a state budget earmark, which will be used to buy 10 new type 6 engines, which are a hybrid vehicle, made for off-road fire fighting, which will help modernize volunteer fire departments in the region. Leggett Valley, Covelo, Laytonville, Piercy and Westport will all receive one of those units.
