The Lake County Board of Supervisors at their meeting at the beginning of the week approved a three-month contract extension to Sunrise Special Services Foundation to continue to operate the emergency shelter in Lakeport. The board agreed the shelter needs to remain open and at the same time improve the way it functions. The board also agreed to increase the shelter’s total annual budget by $51,000, which brings the yearly contract to $460,000.
The board of Supervisors also considered and denied a proposal to make a neighborhood in Redwood Valley a cannabis-free zone, meaning no new grow operations in that area and the possible dislocation of three that are already operating in that area. The board, however, did direct Code Enforcement to make that neighborhood an area of increased focus to help satisfy the concerns of residential property owners in the zone.
The proposal was denied by a narrow vote.
