Mendocino Animal Shelter Loses Social Media Page

The Mendocino County Animal Shelter continues to operate at capacity, and sees no end in sight of animal surrenders due to the economic downturn of the past couple of years, and due to the pandemic, when folks adopted pets that they no longer have time for as they return to full time work. The illegal cannabis industry also contributes to the issue, when they harvest crops they give up their guard dogs. The shelter has relied heavily on social media to get the word out to the public, and recently, the shelter has had its Facebook page removed, after a post stating that the facility could not accept anymore surrenders and were looking at the possibility of euthanization of some animals. Appeals and attempts at contact have been made to Facebook to no avail. The director of the shelter asks the public in the meantime to go to the facility’s website at mendocinoanimalshelter.com for more information on adoptions and other services.
