Intoxicated Man Drowns Near Mouth of Navarro River

The body of a man thought to intoxicated while swimming was recovered over the weekend and the Mendocino County Sheriff’s office  is investigating the possible accidental drowning.  The unidentified man was swimming with a female friend near the mouth of the Navarro River.  Mendofever reports Captain Greg Van Patten said he was heavily intoxicated and his friend left him at the river, and then called the Sheriff sometime after to do a welfare check.  Upon arriving at the area described at milepost marker 3, deputies found him floating in the river.  Toxicology on the man is expected to take several weeks to complete.
