Concern over the financial health of Mendocino County continues to be an issue with the Board of Supervisors posing some serious questions to the Auditor/Controller/Tax Collector’s office. The MendoVoice reports conversations between the board and Chamise Cubbison at its last meeting on Tuesday were tense, with Cubbison stating her department was seriously behind getting financial documentation together, due to an extreme staffing shortage. The board had asked the state controller for help with regard to financial reporting, but the state informed them that the issue should be addressed with the County Controller. Cubbison expressed frustration over the demands for so much information without much warning and couldn’t answer questions about the upcoming fiscal year because the previous year’s paperwork is still being finalized. She asked the board for ad hoc meetings to address their questions, stating that the board wasn’t listening to information already given it. The board directed that several items regarding financial record keeping be looked into.
