Sentencing in the case of former Ukiah Police Sergeant Kevin Murray is scheduled for tomorrow, and Mendocino County probation officers are asking the court for a 12-month suspended sentence, which is being strenuously opposed by Murray’s defense team that negotiated a plea bargain for Murray. The probation office cites objections to a nonjail sentence for Murray from his Lake County victim. The defense contends the probation department is going beyond the agreed-upon terms of Murray’s sentence, citing his continued sobriety and mental health treatment as a reason to stick to the terms of the plea.
