The expansion of the Mendocino County Jail has hit a snag, due to just over $4 million in funding shortfalls due to increased labor costs and higher material prices. The firm designing the expansion says that it is not confident that the project will get through the review process by the state fire marshal and county building department. Initial cost projections estimated the expansion would cost just over $25.5 million and now the projected cost could be upwards of $35.5 million. During their meeting last week, the County Board of Supervisors said it will lobby the state for funding to cover the shortfall cost.
