Edward Two Feathers Steele, appeared by video before Judge John Behnke yesterday morning after initially refusing to appear for his arraignment on charges involving the abandonment of two small children and the death of one of those children. Steele’s public defender was assigned and ordered by the court to check for any potential conflicts of interest that might arise from her involvement in the case. On Monday, DA David Eyster filed a preemptory challenge of Judge Carly Dolan, stating that due to her service in the public defender’s office and a prior appearance before her by Steele in another matter, she could not be impartial. Steele did not enter a plea in his case, he is scheduled to do that on the 24th before an as-of-yet unscheduled Judge. Steele could be facing life in prison.
