High Levels Of Cyanotoxins Could Make Water Drawn From Clear Lake Unsafe

Health and tribal officials are reporting that due to the drought and high temperatures, unprecedented levels of cyanotoxins are being found in some areas of Clear Lake. According to the Lake County News, Lake County residents with water systems that draw from the lake may find drinking water may become unsafe, especially in the area around the Sulfur Bank Mine and along the shore of Clear Lake’s Lower and Oaks Arms. If you live outside of the areas specified, and you have an individual water system with a private intake that draws water directly from Clear Lake, it is important to maintain awareness of current water quality conditions and assess your risk. Officials are urging residents to contact their public water system for more information. Filling stationsare available to the community at 10680 Lakeshore Drive, Clearlake and 4980 Hawaina Way, Kelseyville.
