Fire crews in Mendocino County have brought the over 100-acre Bank Fire under control and last night reported forward progress had been stopped. The fire in the Covelo area near Highway 162 and Fairbanks lane threatened buildings and prompted the Mendocino County Sheriff’s office to put out evacuation warnings around 6 pm last night. Those warnings were downgraded about an hour later, calling for preparation and situational awareness. Old Highway 53 between Airport Road and Lakeview was closed as of last night. The Bank Fire is now the biggest wildfire in Mendocino County this year.
