Some Camping Areas in Mendocino National Forest Closed

Forest officials have announced that campgrounds within the Mendocino National Forest, including Letts Lake, Mill Valley, and Masterson campgrounds, are closing due to ongoing safety hazards, according to Forest Order 08-22-05. Increased drought conditions and insect activity continue to cause trees to die, and then fall in the areas of the campgrounds. Tree removal continues forward, with no set timeline as to completion, and reopening of those areas. A shortage of tree fallers is causing some of the delays, tree fallers must pass rigorous qualifications to remove large diameter trees.
