Lake County Board of Supers Follows Court Order and Rescinds Approvals for Guenoc Valley Project

The Lake County Board of Supervisors rescinded land use approvals for a south county resort development following a court order, but a partner in the project says work on the project continues to move forward. The approvals for the Guenoc Valley Project known as Maha Guenoc Valley were passed in 2020, however, the Center for Biological Diversity and the California Native Plant Society filed suit to halt the project over environmental concerns and the California State Attorney’s office intervened on their behalf. The county was actually close to overturning the suit when it was found that the project plan did not present adequate community evacuation routes. Although a setback, project partner Chris Meredith says the way is cleared now for Guenoc Valley to work with the County, community members, and leading fire safety experts to develop a path forward with the necessary fire safety provisions.
