Governor Announces State Will Update Masking Policy, County Responds

With Governor Newsom’s announcement that the state will update its masking policy next week, the California Department of Public Health will be updating k-12 schools’ guidance to strongly recommend rather than require masking in schools. County public health officers may still impose rules more stringent than the state based on local virus counts. Ukiah Public Schools has said in a press release that the district will continue to follow the guidance of the CDPH. Mendocino County Public Information Officer Dr. Andrew Coren has said that according to the Center for Disease Control, Mendocino County is still an area of HIGH RISK, meaning masking indoors is recommended.
