Coyote Valley Pomo Indians Asking for Collaborative Control of Jackson Demonstration Forest

The Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians has asked Governor Gavin Newsome to engage in government to government consultations for Tribal-State co-management of the Jackson Demonstration State Forest, which is located on the tribe’s ancestral lands. The request is based on a new state policy that declares that in the spirit of truth and healing in recognition of past harms done, state agencies must be open to opportunities to work collectively in the management of natural resources originally owned by tribal entities. The tribe is also asking the governor to bring the heads of several state agencies into the collaboration.
