Public Health Officer Says Another Virus Outbreak at Mendocino County Jail

Another COVID-19 outbreak is affecting dozens of inmates at the Mendocino County Jail. The Daily Journal reports that Public Health Officer Dr. Andy Coren said that there are 20 staff members affected and that 62 inmates tested positive with 42 in isolation. Dr. Coren says despite the outbreak, there have been no new hospitalizations or severe cases reported. Dr. Coren also reports that there were 141 new cases in the county, and that he expects Northern California to peak by early to mid February. He stated that over 70% of county residents have been vaccinated and that although the Omicron variant is still less lethal, it can still be very lethal for those who are not vaccinated.
