The Sonoma County Water Agency announced before the holiday that its filed a petition with the State Water Resources Control Board to request a change in the amount of water it is required to release in the Russian River due to a mechanical failure at the PG&E hydroelectric facility, in order to keep more water in Lake Mendocino. If the petition is approved, the water supply condition would remain critical through the end of the year.
