Lake County Board of Supers Continues Needle Exchange Program With Restrictions

The Lake County Board of Supervisors after hours of debate over the operation, size, and mission of a syringe exchange program voted 4-1 to continue the program with restrictions. Needle exchange programs have operated since the late ’80s, but since 1999 local government has operated most of the programs. Certain entities have not only been doing needle exchange but also handing out glass pipes, unbeknownst to the committee. That issue along with the lack of an annual report which would outline the cost-effectiveness of the programs were the points of contention at the meeting.
