Collision Near Willits Causes Deisel Fuel Spill

A collision that caused the closure of Highway 101 near Willits Tuesday resulted in 50 gallons of diesel fuel being spilled on the roadway. According to the CHP, the driver of a 2016 Volvo Tractor crossed over the solid double yellow lines and struck a northbound 2019 Peterbilt Tractor towing a tank trailer that was carrying nearly 8,000 gallons of gasoline. But the diesel spill actually came from the Volvo, when it’s saddle diesel tank ruptured in the crash. CHP says the fuel was contained to the bridge deck, and with the assistance of Caltrans, the diesel fuel was absorbed and cleaned from the roadway. No fuel leaked from the involved tank trailer.
