Board of Supervisors Declare Local Emergency After Hopkins Fire

During their meeting yesterday, the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to declare a local emergency due to the Hopkins Fire. That fire started on September 12th in Calpella, and grew to 257 acres. A preliminary damage assessment found damage to a total of 67 structures, including 36 single-family residences and 31 accessory structures, on 33 different properties. At least 30 of the homes were destroyed. The emergency declaration will help the county bring in additional state and federal funds to assist with cleanup and recovery.
