Protests Continue Over Jackson Demonstration State Forest Timber Harvest

Protests over the Jackson Demonstration State Forest timber harvest continue. Last week, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s Jackson Demonstration State Forest announced that there would be a temporary pause of operations on the Caspar 500 Timber Harvest Plan to further engage with the local community. Since CAL FIRE has held multiple community listening sessions. On Monday, a group of protestors marched through the streets of Fort Bragg and gathered outside the CalFire office. Protestors accuse the state of harvesting the largest trees to make a profit off the lumber shortage in the housing market. CAL FIRE says the logging operations supplements their firefighting costs and aids in forest management.
