The Ukiah Police Department issued a statement following outcry over use of force during an arrest last week. The incident involved 25-year-old Gerardo Magdaleno, who was naked on South State Street, and resisting arrest. While on the ground and still resisting, video shows police officers punching Magdaleno in the head. UPD says the videos show a partial view of the incident and a graphic portrayal of force when the suspect failed to be subdued after a series of hands-off police techniques. UPD says an investigation is underway regarding the incident’s escalation and whether Ukiah Police principals and protocols were followed.
