Homicide Convict Dies in State Prison

66-year-old Steven Patrick Ryan died last week while serving a 21-year sentence in state prison, in the 2016 shooting death of an unarmed young black man. Ryan was convicted by jury in May 2018 of voluntary manslaughter for the shooting death of De’Shaun Christopher Davis. Ryan claimed the shooting was in self-defense, but a witness testified the victim was on his knees with his hands up, when Ryan fatally shot him.
