Fort Bragg City Council Makes No Recommendation on City’s Name Change

A citizen’s commission gave a presentation to the City Council on the possibility of changing the name of the city on Tuesday. The issue of the city’s name comes from the history of the city, which was named after confederate General Braxton Bragg. Fort Bragg was responsible for the attempted genocide involved in the removal of the indignous peoples in the Mendocino area. Community feedback was solicited, with polls, surveys, and 31 hours of Zoom meetings and over 60 hours of discussion of the subject recorded. Citing the fact that there is still no real consensus on the matter by the community, the city council decided not to make a recommendation on the name change.
