The cause of a fatal accident on Clear Lake was the result of boat damage. In June, 50-year-old Webster Medley III and his fiancé, 50-year-old Novia Walton died when their boat capsized offshore of Clearlake Oaks. Three other passengers on the boat made it to shore. The group was on a nighttime fishing trip when the boat took on water and capsized. Based on the the Marine Patrol’s examination of the boat, and witness statements, it was concluded the accident was related to a damaged outboard transom.
