Investigation into a deputy-involved shooting is underway in Lake County. Friday morning around 3 am, a deputy was called to the Marina Market in the 3600 block of Highway 20 in Nice. The deputy was confronted by a person with a knife that moved toward them. The deputy called for backup and then reported “shots fired.” The deputy reported the suspect had wounds in the arm and chest and provided aid til a fire crew arrived. A call for an air ambulance went out but it wasn’t possible due to the weather. The victim was transported to a local hospital and was then transferred out of the county for continued treatment. As per the county’s Critical Incident Protocol, a parallel investigation into the shooting has been launched. The deputy involved was placed on mandatory administrative leave.
