It’s National Safe Boating Week, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 88 of Lake County, will be out doing patrols this weekend on Clear Lake. A representative of the auxiliary told the Clearlake City Council that the summer months of June, July and August are the most active boating months, with the most fatal boating accidents occurring in these months. Use of alcohol while boating was the leading contributing factor followed by operator inattention, inexperience, excessive speed and machine failure.
