In a new agreement between Governor Gavin Newsom and the state legislature, public schools could get over $6 billion if they return to in-person instruction by the end of March. To receive the special funding to cover the costs for things like PPE and ventilation improvements, schools in the purple tier, will have to open transitional kindergarten through second grade and bring back at-risk students in all grades. Counties in the red tier must open to all elementary grades and at least one grade in middle and high school.
