Fire Destroys a Home and Other Structures in Clearlake

A structure fire that spread to the wildland destroyed a house, two garages, a recreational vehicle and two to three vehicles on Friday afternoon on in Clearlake. Multiple agencies responded to the incident on Snook Avenue, including CAL Fire, the Lake County Fire Protection District and Lakeport Fire. PG&E crews arrived as well to restore downed power lines.

No Structures Burned in Wildland Fire Near Lakeport

A wildland fire near Lakeport that broke out yesteday just before noon threatened nearby homes. The fire was in the 300 block of Island View Drive. Lakeport Fire, Kelseyville Fire, Northshore Fire and Cal Fire responded to the incident which was at 2 acres. Initial containment happened within 40 minutes. No structures were damaged. Fire officials believe the blaze was human caused, but are still investigating.

Ukiah Planning Commission Approves Plan for Homeless Shelter

Following a public hearing last week, the The Ukiah Planning Commission approved plans for a permit to operate homeless shelter on South State Street. Redwood Community Services has proposed to rennovate the facility to be used as a year-round daytime shelter, and as a permanent winter homeless shelter. The daytime shelter would offer services during business hours 7 days a week. The emergency winter shelter would provide room for up to 60 people a night, and operate seven days a week between 6 p.m. and 9 a.m.

Little Lake Fire Department Contains Spot Fire

The Little Lake Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire yesterday along the Skunk Railroad tracks as well as other several smaller “spot” fires. The fire department reported the 20’x100′ wind driven vegetation fire was contained by 2 Little Lake Fire engines, 2 Duty Officers, 1 Brooktrails engine on mutual aid. The Willits Police Department also assisted by looking for spot fires on adjacent properties.

Temblor Friday Morning Shakes Some in Ukiah

People in Ukiah reported feeling a 4.9 magnitude temblor Friday afternoon. The USGS says it happened at 4:02PM with an epicenter located 53.9 miles off Eureka. Then Saturday morning, there was a 4.6 magnitude earthquake (4.2 miles deep) with an epicenter located 66.2 miles from Eureka.

Evacuations Lifted Following Fire in Lucerne

A fire in Lucerne yesterday destroyed two homes, and damaged a third home and several outbuildings. The fire was reported in the 4200 block of Foothill Drive in Lucerne at about 5:30 p.m. Fire crews battled the flames for about 2 hours. By 8PM, the Lake County Sheriff Department lifted all evacuations. The cause of the fire was a barbecue.

Planning Commission Approves Updated Site Development Permit for Costco

The Ukiah Planning Commission has approved an updated site development permit for a proposed Costco warehouse. If the permit is finalized, construction could start in September and be done by the spring. Changes to the original project inlcude a reduction in warehouse size from 148,000 to 141,000 square feet, a slight reduction in the number of parking lot stalls, parking lot and interior lighting will be LED, there will be more native plants included in the landscaping, and a buffer will be created between the warehouse and the surrounding wetlands.

LCSO Releases Video to Help Identify Suspects in Murder Case

Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives continue to investigate the murder of David Shalett who was killed on July 19th, by an intruder during a home invasion robbery at his residence located on State Street in Kelseyville. There are two persons of interest who were captured on surveillance video. The Sheriff’s Office is releasing two videos that were captured by that surveillance system. Chase from Lake in Mendocino County Ends with Arrest

A man from San Diego was arrested yesterday after leading police on two seperate chases from Lake into Mendocino County. 42-year-old Kacy J. Perry was finally stopped at the entrance of Hopland Sho-Kah-Wah Casino.CHP says Perry was booked into Lake County Jail for felony evading, driving under the influence of drugs, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and resisting or delaying a peace officer.

Free Legal Services Provided for Path to Citizenship Day

Legal Services of Northern California will provide a free legal clinic to residents of Lake and Mendocino counties wanting help with their US citizenship applications. The clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow at the ARC Family Resource Center, on South State Street in Ukiah.
