Flags flew at half-mast throughout Mendocino County yesterday in honor of Ricky Del Fiorentino, the Mendocino County sheriff’s deputy who was killed Wednesday while pursuing an armed and dangerous suspect. People in the community and state officials have been mourning the loss of one of the area’s finest.
Governor Jerry Brown’s office issued a statement that said: Deputy Del Fiorentino was killed upholding the oath he swore: To protect his community. We extend our deepest condolences to deputy Del Fiorentino’s family, friends and coworkers and to the community of Fort Bragg.” He said Capitol flags would also be flown at half-mast in his honor. Medoncino County Sheriff Tom Allman says, “The Mendocino County Community has reached out to Ricky’s family and the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office in ways which I cannot explain without getting emotional.”
An account has been set up at the Savings Bank of Mendocino County for donations for Del Fiorentino’s family. A memorial service is planned at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, at Fort Bragg High School, where he was a wrestling coach.
