Ghost Ship Fire Trial Verdict Leaves Future Uncertain for Lake County Man

The future of Ghost Ship warehouse master tenant Derick Almena is still unclear. A mistrial was declared yesterday afternoon for Almena although 10 of the 12 jurors had voted to convict him on 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. Almena, who founded the Ghost Ship collective, was arrested in Lake County in June of 2017 in relation to the deadly 2016 warehouse fire. Most of the 36 victims who perished in the fire were trapped upstairs during an electronic music show, when the only staircase went up in flames. As for the case against Almena, there is still the possibility of a retrial or possible plea deal.
