Caltrans Employee Awarded for Heroism in Mendocino County

A Caltrans employee received two awards for his heriosm in Mendocino County. Michael Quinliven was presented a Silver Medal of Valor for his efforts to save two shooting victims on July 2nd. Quinliven was also presented the Gold Medal of Valor for his sheer heroism during the Ranch fire. On July 29, Quinliven was working on Highway 20 in Mendocino County when the Ranch fire started to pick up momentum. In addition to helping vehicles driving through get out of the fire safely, he rescued a woman and her three children in their SUV, trapped by flames and thick smoke, by guiding them out to safety.
